Special ORP-redox probe for salt chlorination. Seko Redox electrode with gold filament and individual membrane. Designed for Salt Electrolysis in private pools.

The Redox Probe SRH-AU Seko is a high performance electrode specifically designed to measure redox in water treatment systems, swimming pools and industrial applications.

Its guided calibration allows users to obtain accurate results without the need for specialized technical knowledge. This probe stands out for its accuracy and long operating life, making it an excellent choice for environments that require constant monitoring of chlorine levels via indirect measurement by ORP (oxidation potential), also known as redox.

It is especially useful in redox measurement with salt chlorination, since its internal filament is made of gold alloy, which allows less oscillations and parasitic currents than with other cheaper redox probes.

Thanks to its BNC connector, it is compatible with most salt chlorinators on the market that already incorporate Redox measurement in the equipment. If you have doubts about its compatibility, you can consult us via whatsapp.

Features of the Seko SRH-AU Redox 6M Probe

  • Accurate measurement: Designed to reliably measure free or total chlorine in industrial and swimming pool applications.
  • Simple interface: Simple installation via a two-wire interface for easy integration into any system.
  • Calibration: The SRH-AU electrode is factory calibrated as a quality test, however, we at PoolComet recommend periodic calibration (every 1-2 months as a benchmark) as a means of maintaining the most accurate measurement quality possible.
  • Durability: Manufactured with high quality materials that guarantee a long service life, even in harsh environments. The electrodes of redox are fragile elements, which must be kept in specific conditions. Pool durability ranges from 6 months to 2 years, depending on cleaning frequency, calibration frequency and water conditions.

What is redox and how does it relate to free chlorine?

The potential redox (also called ORP: Oxidation-Reduction Potential) is a value that measures the oxidizing capacity of water, i.e., its ability to destroy organic matter, bacteria, viruses and other contaminants. It is expressed in millivolts (mV), and the higher the value, the greater the disinfectant capacity of the water. In the case of pool water, the redox is a reasonably inexpensive option to know, indirectly, if the water has sufficient disinfectant.

A properly disinfected pool should maintain a free chlorine concentration between 1 ppm (part per million) and 2 ppm. If the concentration falls below this threshold, the disinfectant capacity of the water is reduced, increasing the risk of proliferation of microorganisms. On the other hand, if this range is greatly exceeded, the water can become aggressive for the skin, eyes and mucous membranes of bathers, in addition to generating unpleasant odors and deteriorating materials.

Many control systems use redox probes to activate or deactivate chlorine production depending on the actual need for disinfection. Although redox does not measure free chlorine concentration, there is a correlation between mV in water and disinfection capacity.

To establish the appropriate level of redox, the pH level, water temperature and alkalinity level must also be taken into account. In the following table we offer an approximation of the relationship between redox and free chlorine for a pool with temperature 25ºC and alkalinity at 100ppm.

Free chlorine (ppm) pH 7.0 pH 7.2 pH 7.5 pH 7.7 pH 8.0
0.5 735 mV 720 mV 695 mV 682 mV 668 mV
1.0 760 mV 743 mV 716 mV 703 mV 689 mV
1.5 772 mV 755 mV 731 mV 716 mV 702 mV
2.0 780 mV 765 mV 740 mV 725 mV 712 mV
2.5 788 mV 772 mV 746 mV 732 mV 718 mV
3.0 794 mV 778 mV 753 mV 739 mV 724 mV
3.5 799 mV 783 mV 758 mV 744 mV 729 mV
4.0 803 mV 787 mV 762 mV 748 mV 733 mV

* Adequate free chlorine levels should be between 1 and 2ppm, so it is always recommended to take as a reference the value of 1.5ppm or 2ppm to avoid an excessive drop in the level of free chlorine during the influx of bathers.

PoolComet tips for keeping your redox probe in good condition.

The pH and Redox electrodes are high-precision components and require specific care to ensure reliable readings and prolong their life. Before installation or replacement, always follow these recommendations:

1. Preparation

  • Carefully remove the protective layer.
  • Rinse the electrode tip with clean water.
  • Do not touch the sensing tip with your hands, as this may alter its sensitivity.

2. Calibration

  • Always use clean and fresh calibration solutions.
  • Avoid rubbing the probe when drying it; it may generate electrostatic charge and cause erroneous readings.
  • Follow the calibration instructions on the corresponding control panel.

3. Cleaning and Storage

  • Clean the electrodes when measurements are slow or unstable.
  • Always keep the sensor bulb moist in the appropriate storage solution (never in distilled water).
  • Avoid extremely acidic or alkaline solutions for long periods.
  • Avoid performing shock chlorination with the probe in the hydraulic circuit, as this significantly shortens its service life.

4. Cleaning and Storage

  • The electrodes undergo natural aging, even with proper use.
  • The average lifespan is 3 to 18 months, depending on the type of use and maintenance, as well as the frequency of calibration.

How often should the probe redox be calibrated in a swimming pool?

It should be calibrated at least every 2 months. In winter it is advisable to keep it out of the pipe, clean and with the original cap with tap water or calibration solution redox, never with distilled water, since it can deionize the electrode.
Is it compatible with the Hayward Aquarite, Kripsol KLX or Sugar Valley salt chlorinator?

To take pH and Redox readings, Hayward instruments require a readout chip that is included only in the original Hayward pH kit, or in the original Hayward redox kit. The chip is not sold separately. If your Hayward Salt Chlorinator already has the chip Included, this redox probe will be compatible.

What is the warranty on a Redox Probe?

Redox probes are consumable and highly sensitive measuring elements, so they do not come with a standard warranty. Its operation may be affected by chemical changes in the water, improper handling, excessive pressure in the system, lack of calibration, or the use of contaminated buffer solutions.

The manufacturer will only consider a warranty claim if the probe, which has just been installed, does not work from the moment it is first turned on. In that case, please send us an email explaining what happened and providing as much information as possible about the installation, calibration, and tests performed.
