Renew your pool chlorine measurement with this platinum copper electrode compatible with most pool chlorine control panels on the market.

The copper and platinum electrode for measuring panel consists of two parts, the platinum electrode(RIC0151025) and the copper electrode(RIC0151034), which constitutes a perfect set for replacement in swimming pool measuring panels. Although these elements can be supplied separately, it is highly recommended to substitute both, since the measurement consists of two parts: the platinum electrode, which generates a small electric current, and the copper electrode, which acts as a capacitor for the stable reading of that current. If one of the two parts is in bad condition, the measurement may be inaccurate.

How does a copper-platinum electrode work in a pool chlorine measurement panel?

The copper and platinum electrode for chlorine measurement panel works on an amperometric electrochemical principle, in which the platinum acts as the working electrode and the copper as the reference or counter electrode: when water flows through the measurement chamber (always with flow rate controlled by the panel to avoid turbulence), the free active chlorine (mainly hypochlorous acid, HOCl) is reduced on the surface of the platinum, generating a very small electric current whose intensity is directly proportional to the concentration of chlorine present in the water, and the electronic equipment of the panel converts this signal into a chlorine value expressed in mg/L or ppm, allowing a continuous and real-time measurement, provided that stable conditions of pH, flow rate and water cleanliness are maintained, as these factors directly influence the accuracy of the reading.

It is the ideal type of reading in Commercial Pools (hotels, residences, gyms), which work with liquid chlorine. It is not recommended in pools treated with Salt Electrolysis, as the measurement may be altered by the conductivity of the water (higher in pools with dissolved salt) and, in addition, the copper electrodes may oxidize more quickly.

Why is it important to measure free chlorine in swimming pools?

Free chlorine determines the water’s ability to oxidize bacteria and pathogens. It is one of the main parameters in swimming pools, especially in those of public use, cell housings with high temperature or with great affluence of swimmers. It is a mandatory control parameter for public use regulations.
What is the proper flow rate for a correct measurement in the copper-platinum probe?

The manufacturer recommends a flow rate of 60 liters/hour for correct chlorine measurement with a copper-platinum probe. The flow rate is adjustable inside the PSS Plexi PSS probe holder panel and is marked for easy adjustment.
