Chlorine dosing pump for peristaltic PK-Pool Redox Etatron

The Etatron PK-Pool Rx peristaltic dosing pump is a proportional flow pump designed for controlling chlorine levels and dosing hypochlorite into pool water. This feature measures the Redox potential, monitors the level of free chlorine in the water, and, if it falls below the desired level, injects liquid chlorine to ensure that the pool always maintains the desired level of disinfectant.

As a proportional dosing pump, it allows you to adjust the amount of fluid delivered according to demand, giving you precise control over the flow rate.

This dosing pump is the ideal option to measure redox (free chlorine by indirect measurement) and to dose liquid chlorine according to the need of the pool or spa. It is recommended for residential pools and spas.

It is an ideal solution also for machine rooms where a quiet operation of the dosing pump is required because, thanks to its auxiliary foot and peristaltic motor, the PK Pool redox operates without noise.

It includes all the necessary elements for a first installation: peristaltic pump, pH probe, probe holder, suction tube and electrode holder.

PK-Pool Rx peristaltic pump characteristics

  • PK-Pool peristaltic pumps can be used in domestic pools and spas. They provide a dosage proportional to the measured value.
  • It works with a flow rate of up to 1.5 liters per hour and a maximum pressure of 1.5 bar.
  • Uses a 230V 50-60 Hz power supply.
  • It has a programmable set point.
  • It has a backlit display and installation accessories.
  • Measuring range 0 mV ÷ +1000 mV
  • It is an easy to use pump, which allows dosage adjustment (acid or alkaline).
  • This peristaltic pump helps you save energy, consuming only 15W.
  • If you want to manage the pH level, there is a pH control model in the PK-Pool range.

What is redox and how does it relate to free chlorine?

The redox potential (also known as ORP, Oxidation Reduction Potential) measures the oxidizing capacity of water, i.e. its ability to remove bacteria, viruses, organic matter and other contaminants. It is expressed in millivolts (mV). The higher the redox value, the higher the disinfection capacity of the water.

In a swimming pool, the redox allows to know indirectly if the water has sufficient disinfection capacity. It is a relatively simple and inexpensive method to control the level of disinfectant without directly measuring the concentration of free chlorine.

Under normal swimming conditions, a pool should maintain a free chlorine concentration between 1 and 2 ppm. If the level drops below this range, the disinfectant capacity decreases and the risk of microorganism proliferation increases. If the level is too high, the water can be irritating to eyes and skin, as well as producing unpleasant odors and accelerating the wear of some materials.

Many automatic treatment systems use redox probes to activate or stop chlorine production according to the actual need for disinfection. Although redox does not directly measure free chlorine, there is a correlation between the millivolts of water and its disinfecting capacity.

The redox value also depends on other water parameters such as pH, temperature or alkalinity. The following table shows an approximate redox to free chlorine ratio for a pool with a temperature of 25 °C and an alkalinity of 100 ppm.

Free chlorine (ppm) pH 7.0 pH 7.2 pH 7.5 pH 7.7 pH 8.0
0.5 735 mV 720 mV 695 mV 682 mV 668 mV
1.0 760 mV 743 mV 716 mV 703 mV 689 mV
1.5 772 mV 755 mV 731 mV 716 mV 702 mV
2.0 780 mV 765 mV 740 mV 725 mV 712 mV
2.5 788 mV 772 mV 746 mV 732 mV 718 mV
3.0 794 mV 778 mV 753 mV 739 mV 724 mV
3.5 799 mV 783 mV 758 mV 744 mV 729 mV
4.0 803 mV 787 mV 762 mV 748 mV 733 mV

* In private pools it is recommended to keep the free chlorine between 1 and 2 ppm. For this reason, a redox setting equivalent to 1.5 or 2 ppm is usually taken as a reference to prevent the disinfectant level from dropping during pool use.

PoolComet tips for keeping your redox probe in good condition

pH and redox probes are high-precision measuring devices and require certain care to ensure reliable readings and an adequate service life.

Preparation

  • Carefully remove the probe protection.
  • Rinse the electrode tip with clean water (do not use distilled water).
  • Do not touch the sensor tip with your fingers to avoid altering its sensitivity.

Calibration

  • Always use new or undamaged calibration solutions.
  • Do not rub the probe when drying it; it may generate static electricity and alter the measurement.
  • Always follow the calibration procedure indicated by the equipment manufacturer.

Cleaning and storage

  • Clean the probe when readings are slow or unstable.
  • Always keep the sensor bulb moist in the appropriate storage solution.
  • Never store the probe in distilled water.
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to extremely acidic or alkaline solutions.

Shelf life

  • The electrodes suffer wear and tear with use and the passage of time.
  • Typical service life is between 6 and 18 months, depending on maintenance, water conditions and frequency of calibration.
