Why can’t my liner, fiber or reinforced pvc liner pool use copper?

Products containing copper sulfate-based algaecides may precipitate on the surfaces of liner, metal, or fiberglass pools. When this happens, permanent spots—such as black or brown spots—appear. Products that do not contain copper sulfate will not have this effect under any circumstances.

Why is winterizing necessary below 15°?

Below 15º, algae reproduce more slowly, and their reproductive metabolism may even come to a halt below 8–10º. Winterizing agents containing quaternary ammonium compounds have a bacteriostatic effect that inhibits reproduction over a wider range of temperatures.
