The Ecosalt Salt Chlorinator was one of the most successful equipment in the salt electrolysis market during the first years of the 21st century. Its reputation for being reliable and easy to operate, together with an extended cell life with a transparent polycarbonate body (something very new decades ago), allowed it a relevant market share in the European swimming pool market.

Manufactured in Australia by one of the pioneers of Salt Electrolysis, the Chlorinator was easily recognizable by its inverted U-shaped cell with two voltage terminals and a gas detector on top. Ecosalt BMSC was easily recognizable by its inverted U-shaped cell, with two voltage terminals and a gas detector at the top.

It is currently phased out and in the next few years it will be difficult to find spare parts. Salt chlorination electrode replacement parts are products with a limited service life. For this reason, once they have been installed—even if only for testing purposes—they cannot be returned. Why is it so important to change the cell of the Ecosalt salt chlorinator?

The chlorinator cell is the part in charge of generating disinfectant in the pool. Over time, the blades of the cell wear out and stop producing chlorine.

Is this swimming pool cell spare part compatible between your different models?

No, each model works independently. For example, it is not possible to use the BMSC 13 model in the BMSC20, because the voltage applied to each model varies.

How can I extend the life of the Ecosalt salt chlorinator cell?

There are several useful tips for extending electrode life:

Extend the frequency of polarity changes. The more frequent the polarity change, the shorter the life of the electrolysis cell. A polarity change of less than 4 hours will be one of the main causes of cell life reduction. If the water of your pool does not have much calcium hardness, we recommend that this change of polarity is between 6h and 8h to keep the cell clean and extend the life of the cell. In the salt chlorinator Innowater SMC you can modify the frequency of polarity change in the option 2 of the menu.
Clean the electrodes at least once a year, with specific products such as ACTI liquid cell cleaner.
Close the chlorinator bypass when you are backwashing the filter. This will reduce the dirt that we bring to the salt chlorinator cell.
Remove the cell in winterizing. When the water temperature drops, there is a noticeable decrease in the conductivity of the water. This lower water conductivity will be compensated by the salt chlorinator by increasing the electrical intensity. This increase in intensity shortens the life of the chlorinator.
