Salt Chlorinator Cell Replacement for Colibri CC and WP Models

The cell replacement for the chlorinator is an essential spare part to ensure the proper functioning of the equipment. Colibri CC is an essential spare part to ensure the proper functioning of the equipment. Over time, the blades in the Salt Chlorinator wear out, reducing its ability to generate chlorine through electrolysis, which makes it necessary to replace the cell at the end of its service life.

This is a 100% original cell, which does not include the cables or the cell housing.

It is very easy to change, no technical knowledge is required.

Thanks to its reinforced coating, the cell blades of the Colibri CC are one of the most resistant on the market, reaching a lifetime of up to 15,000 hours. All of them are tested at Bright Blue ‘s factory in Lisbon to check the quality, resistance and durability of their materials.

Alarm 4 – Alarm 4 in Colibri CC

This alarm is triggered when the electrolysis cell generates less than 30 % of its rated capacity (e.g. if it displays “S: 29 %” or less). This situation may be due to the cell reaching the end of its useful life and needing to be replaced soon, or to insufficient salinity in the water.

As a result, chlorine production decreases considerably, forcing disinfection times to be extended to maintain adequate water quality. To make sure it is not a problem with the electrodes, you can check the following points:

  • The salinity of the water is correctly adjusted between 4 and 5 g/L.

  • Valves are in their correct position

  • No leaks in the hydraulic system.

  • The filter is in filtration mode

  • Circuit breakers are turned on

  • The power supply of the cell is correctly configured.

  • The cell is in good working order.

  • No mineral accumulation in the cell (whitish appearance).

  • That the equipment is correctly calibrated

Note: In case the system temperature rises, the alarm will be automatically deactivated.

Why is it so important to replace the cell in the Colibri CC salt chlorinator?

The chlorinator cell is the part in charge of generating disinfectant in the pool. Over time, the blades of the cell wear out and stop producing chlorine.
Is this swimming pool cell spare part compatible between your different models?

No, each model works independently. For example, it is not possible to use the model Colibri 10 on the Colibri 30, because the voltage applied to each model varies.
How can I extend the service life of the Colibri CC salt chlorinator cell?

There are several useful tips for extending electrode life:

  1. Extend the frequency of polarity changes. The more frequent the polarity change, the shorter the life of the electrolysis cell. A polarity change of less than 4 hours will be one of the main causes of cell life reduction. If the water of your pool does not have much calcium hardness, we recommend that this change of polarity is between 6h and 8h to keep the cell clean and extend the life of the cell. In the salt chlorinator Innowater SMC you can modify the frequency of polarity change in the option 2 of the menu.
  2. Clean the electrodes at least once a year, with specific products such as ACTI liquid cell cleaner.
  3. Close the chlorinator bypass when you are backwashing the filter. This will reduce the dirt that we bring to the salt chlorinator cell.
  4. Remove the cell in winterizing. When the water temperature drops, there is a noticeable decrease in the conductivity of the water. This lower water conductivity will be compensated by the salt chlorinator by increasing the electrical intensity. This increase in intensity shortens the life of the chlorinator. In addition, in winter, no chlorine production is needed. You can learn more about pool winterizing tips in our blog article.

If you wish, you can find more information about the correct maintenance of the salt chlorinator in our article on “How to keep the salt chlorinator in good conditions”.

Spare cell-electrode for Colibri. How do I know which is my chlorinator model?

Bright blue Colibri chlorinators have a sticker on the side of the frame that indicates the model, date of manufacture and production of the chlorinator.
